The Dopamine Chronicles

An almost daily cartoon about Parkinson's

The Great Cosmic “Kick Me!” Sign…

If you’re anything like me when you got diagnosed you probably thought that if there is a God why did he hang this cosmic “kick me” sign on my back? For those of the more “angry atheistic” bent, you probably think that if there IS a God he’s something more like Heath Ledger’s portrayal as the Joker in the recent Batman movies. It’s OKAY to be hacked off!

Once you get over the fact that we ARE all mortal and are going to kick the bucket one or the other some deeper “soul” work goes on. You realize that work ain’t as all fire important as you thought and you can dial back life a bit and enjoy things. As a matter of fact, you WANT to make the most out of your days. Whether its taking photographs with your autistic son or taking the other moderately disabled son to the library to check out books he can’t read, life SHOULD be more about those things (let’s not forget fish fries on Friday night.)

Then there’s the development of the soul. You get a different perspective on people in running around endlessly in their hamster cage lives. You get a gentler attitude towards whackos, bullies and “losers”. Maybe the Divinity is more interested in healing your “innards” than your “outards.”

Sooner or later though you meet that final “Bridge is Out” sign, the Big “D”, your end and my end. For the believer in Christ it ain’t really over… we echo with that old sufferer of old, Job:

“If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.”

Restoration is on the way baby!

ps. it’s Sunday and its MY blog so I’m gonna’ say what I wanna’ say…
